Being the Sony fan that I am, I have to say the PS3 has the better line up of titles, but the 360 does have some really promising games that will no doubt earn PS3 fanboy envy. And with tiles like Mass Effect, Crackdown, and Pray, the 360 does have a strong catalog.

I guess it all depends on your preference.

The 360 had its moment of truth last year when it dropped to 200 dollars. That was the price where the PS3 really exploded in sales.

The gaming public wasn't any more interested in the Xbox 360 than they were with the first Xbox marketplace failure.

The Xbox 360 is selling to the exact same niche PC gamer/Halo fan/Microsoft fan demographic in the US and UK just like the first Xbox.

The only thing different this gen is Microsoft rushing their console out the door a year before this gen started and the millions of duplicated Xbox 360s being sold.

He just correctly pointed out that the PC is a platform therefore the game cannot be exclusive, if by definition exclusive means you can only play it on one platform then those games do not fit that description do they?. God, Sony fans on this site are arrogant as all hell. I own both... and no... The fact that Sony shaved off another $100 from a console that I've already purchased is NOT going to make me or millions of other 360 owners think the 360 was a waste.

When i was a young pup...I was told of a story long ago!

The turtle (SONY) was very, very slow. People said the turtle did not have enough memory, a good graphics card and BluRay was a waste of money and way too expensive.

Now with the PS3 at $299 many gamers realized how good the turtle really is. When they play their first PS3 exclusive. They enjoy their turtle soup and the sweet sensation of BluRay games and movies.

Motto: Slow and steady always win the race. The turtle now comes with 120GB HDD and is very slim to help it in the race.

The point of all this is that the PS3 Slim has sold around 1.2 million units in one months time. That is before any real software has hit to push it, and that is pretty impressive.

Just think what the numbers will be when some higher profile titles like Uncharted 2 hit the console.

To be honest I haven't been impressed by Sony advertising, and I've been VERY critical of them in the past because of it(resulting in more than a few PM exchanges). However, this impresses me, it's kind of hard to criticize their advertising when they're selling these kind of numbers.

Regarding advertising, I think Sony didn't want to make the same mistake Toshiba did with HD-DVD: selling high-def player ($100) for less than some DVD players. All that in order to build a user base, which they did quite successfully. Of course, no manufacturer wanted to sell below cost, so they in fact competed with possible partners and were left alone. I think Sony quite successfully found a balance, they sold decent amount of PS3s and gained support from electronics manufacturers for Blu-ray. Now that Blu-ray players cost as low as $150, even if they sell PS3 for $200, they won't kill the competition. Same with games, 360 biggest sellers are reserved for MS and EA. It may seem attractive like: "Wow, Halo 3 sold 10 million on 360, we can do the same.", but I think developers are smarter than that and they might find better opportunity elsewhere, which seems to start happening in Japan. Nobody wants to compete with Halo or Gears. Or Wii Fit for that matter, which may explain lack of 3rd party titles on Wii.

Look at the history of PS2 vs. Dreamcast and this is starting to look strikingly similar. Dreamcast had the early start and bigger games library, thus a lead on PS2. Then over the course of the system cycle the PS2 just took off and destroyed everything in its path.

With HDTV being more and more the norm...the PS3 now has the advantage the PS2 had (DVD) ... the high tech movie media (Blu Ray) which will appeal to people he want HD movies. So besides games, Sony has people buying PS3s for movies too.

Only time will tell but with arguably Sony's 3 biggest franchises : God of War, Gran Turismo, and Final Fantasy (despite multiplat) ... this years success is only a prelude to next year when these games hit the market.

Lets just wait and see.

Yeah ps3 is selling good right now but its dropping week after week and only outsold the 360 by 100k last week. So another couple of weeks you will see the ps3 average out about 20-40k more than the 360 weekly. So it will take ps3 years to reach the 360 at the current pace and you know 360 isn't gonna let that happen.

THis isnt the first time the PS3 has a sales spike past the competition, and guess what happened every other time? You had every idiot out there claiming this is the end for MS, only to sit and watch the PS3s start selling less and less and eventually begin getting outsold again.

Its ok though, at this rate, Sony wont be able to make a PS4 because they are gonna end up bankrupting themselves trying to keep up with MS. If they were still losing on every PS3 at 399, they must really be losing their butts now.

The two of you are really funny because the minute the 360 out sell the PS3 like it did last year you'll be just like all the other fanboys out there talking about sells. Just admit it to your selves Sony is doing really good, they just cut the 360 lead from 8 million to now 7 million in just a month with out any big heavy titles and on top of that it's still not the holiday season. As I said the demand was always there but the price was too high for many PlayStation fans but now that's not the case.

The 360's demand was never there it's just that when the 360 was launched it was something new from the PS2,GC & XBOX so people bough it.

You hit the nail on the head. That's why i bought a 360 I had a hd tv so I wanted to game in hd now I can't even sell my 360 with controlers games and recharable batteries for next to nothing.

This just shows how much the PS3 is wanted. And 299 bucks is still a price to pay. Not only to mention that it's practically just US who is lucky with the price. In Scandinavia a PS3 still costs 498 USD and in EU it costs 441 USD. That's quite expensive.
